Middle Columbia River Steelhead: Recovery and Restoration

Spring 2013

In eastern Oregon, NOAA Fisheries along with the Umatilla Tribes, government and local entities are improving habitat to recover threatened Middle Columbia Steelhead protected under the Endangered Species Act. Working closely with Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), Eastern Oregon University, and other local stakeholders, NOAA Fisheries is helping create salmon habitat education trunks including lessons plans on the Tribe's cultural ties with steelhead and salmon--material that actively promotes restoration and recovery of steelhead and salmon populations. A university student from Eastern Oregon University helped NOAA and CTUIR to film a video interviewing CTUIR's Natural resource experts, NOAA steelhead recovery experts, and locals on Middle Columbia River steelhead recovery and restoration in the Umatilla Basin.

Check out the new video below, which highlights the restoration and recovery of Middle Columbia River steelhead populations.
