Hatchery Programs - Puget Sound

Salmon and steelhead hatchery programs in the Puget Sound area.

Salmon and steelhead hatchery programs in Puget Sound rear:

  • Spring and fall Chinook salmon,
  • Coho salmon,
  • Sockeye salmon,
  • Fall and summer chum salmon, and
  • Winter and summer steelhead.

Hatchery programs are operated by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the 22 treaty tribes located in the area, and non-governmental organizations.

These programs are largely funded by the states, tribes, and various utility companies. Federal funding for some programs comes from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
