Lake Ozette Sockeye Hatchery Opinion 2015

NOAA Fisheries has issued an Endangered Species Act (ESA) biological opinion on continued hatchery operations in Ozette Lake of Washington. A previous analysis, completed in 2003, determined that hatchery programs to monitor, supplement, and reintroduce sockeye salmon to locations in Lake Ozette and its tributaries was appropriate.  The 2015 opinion concludes that the programs are meeting their performance objectives, but have not yet fully accomplished program goals, and so continued operations are warranted.  NMFS reached this conclusion after evaluating the current status of Ozette Lake sockeye salmon, including consideration of additional monitoring data and data on the progress of the programs.
