Proposed ESA Snake River spring/summer Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Recovery Plan

NOAA Fisheries currently is developing three recovery plans for the four ESA-listed Snake River species – steelhead, spring/summer Chinook salmon, fall-run Chinook salmon and Sockeye salmon. The Snake River Sockeye Recovery Plan was adopted in June 2015,  the Snake River Fall Chinook Recovery Plan was noticed in the Federal Register for public comment on November 2, 2015.

On October 27, 2016, NOAA Fisheries released the proposed Snake River Spring/Summer Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Recovery Plan for public review and comment. This proposed recovery plan includes several sections: (1) a species level "Roll-up" Plan covering all major population groups for both species in the Snake River basin; (2) three Management Unit Plans; Northeast Oregon, Southeast Washington, and Idaho; and (3) four Modules that describe Snake River recovery planning objectives for Columbia River hydropower system, the Columbia River estuary, harvest and the Ocean environment. It is our intent to optimize Recovery Plan implementation through stakeholder involvement in developing draft products, particularly through NOAA Fisheries' Snake River Coordination Group.

NOAA Fisheries has extended the public comment period through February 9, 2017.  See this Federal Register notice and below for instructions on how to submit comments.
