Salmon & Steelhead DPS/ESU & Population Data
This geodatabase was created in 2015 to standardize geospatial data for salmon and steelhead listed under the Endangered Species Act. The extent is NOAA Fisheries' West Coast Region (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California) with some data in British Columbia, Canada. This product has a new design that integrates DPS/ESU data with TRT population data. (Note: in the archives below, the DPS/ESU data are separate from the TRT population data).

This is the first geodatabase version and it includes fish data in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The next version will include California fish data. The former Northwest Region and former Southwest Region of the NOAA Fisheries Service were merged into the West Coast Region in 2013. Data across the new region are being processed, standardized, and compiled to represent the entire coast in a consistent format.

Salmon & Steelhead DPS/ESU Boundaries
The maps and datasets linked below were updated in January 2013 to make use of 2012 watershed boundaries that better depict the freshwater range of Pacific salmon and steelhead under NOAA Fisheries' jurisdiction. They are provided for general reference only and do not constitute a legal description of any species listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.

Technical Recovery Team Population Data

After listing 27 Pacific salmon Evolutionarily Significant Units (ESUs) as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act, NMFS initiated a coast wide process to develop recovery plans for these species. An important part of this process was the creation of geographically based Technical Recovery Teams (TRTs). The TRTs are multi-disciplinary science teams chaired by NWFSC or SWFSC staff. They were tasked with providing science support to recovery planners by developing biologically based viability criteria, analyzing alternative recovery strategies, and providing scientific review of draft plans.
