Commercial Finfish Aquaculture

Salmon has been grown commercially in the state of Washington for about 40 years. Both Pacific and Atlantic salmon are grown here. Salmon are started in land based hatcheries, then transferred to either inwater net pens or larger land based tanks for grow out and harvest. The industry produces approximately 20 million pounds of fish annually and employs an estimated 200 people. Currently there is no commercial salmon production in Oregon or California.
